St Luke’s joins Peckham Citizens
Really pleased to announce that St Luke’s Church has joined Peckham Citizens.
Peckham Citizens is an alliance of schools, churches and other community organisations that works to build the power of people in Peckham to act together on issues of social justice and the common good.
On Sunday 13th December 2015, St Luke’s Church Peckham Parish Council meeting voted to join and become part of Peckham Citizens. With so many cuts in health, youth provision, welfare and community services, many of us are concerned about how all this is going to impact on our parish of the North Peckham Estate.
We have therefore voted to join the Citizens UK campaign, and in particular join in with Peckham Citizens beginning with participation in its local governance structures. We will be looking for participants of St Luke’s to get involved so that we have a ‘Peckham Citizens’ group in the Church made up of all ages.
Peckham Citizens have already taken some action cleaning up and putting pressure on Southwark Council to clean up Kelly Park in the summer of 2015. As a result Cllr Barrie Hargrove, Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Parks, has promised to push for investment to make the park clean and safe for all to enjoy. All this just shows what is possible when we work together!
