St. Luke's Peckham Weekly Newsletter 9

Weekly Newsletter 9

Greetings to everyone, we are in the 7th week of the Easter season and the day after Ascension day, As we enter the 9th week of lockdown, I am happy to report that I was licensed as Priest in Charge of St Luke’s on Tuesday 19th May, to a large group of people who managed to log into Zoom, over 80 people. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to see so many familiar faces, so I thank God for the gift of technology. I’m looking forward to continuing the good work we have already undertaken so far as well as to up our involvement in being a part of the community of North Peckham. Thank you to all of you who were able to log in and I pray we can continue. Onwards and Upwards. Let’s make St Luke’s Great again.

ROGATION SUNDAY - ROGATE CHURCHES

Last week Sunday 17th May was Rogation Sunday, and in previous years we have travelled to visit our Link church and joined in the Rogate Village Walk, alongside Fr Edward and the people of Rogate. It is a shame, we cannot join them this year, but we have been asked to contribute to their service via Video recording. Please do pray for our Link Church, as we are all struggling during these difficult times. I attach their service for last week Rogate Churches - Services Sunday 17/05/2020

WEEKLY SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday17 May at 10am during our service of Holy Communion which was conducted online via Zoom. It went well and we are getting better with the tech each week. If you would like to join us this Sunday, do please get in touch and email me on:  sandra.stlukespeckham@gmail.com

If you would like to see the service for 17th May 2020 it is on our Facebook page @stlukespeckham and YouTube Channels: https://youtu.be/zGcisLk3-cM

ST LUKE’S REGULAR GIVING

We are thankful to all of you who donate to St Luke’s regularly, however, at this time it is just as important to continue your regular giving even if you cannot attend the Church building for worship. I would encourage those of you who normally donate via the collection plate or envelope to consider setting up a Standing Order, so that even when you are unable to attend you will still be contributing financially to the church, so we can continue the work in the community to build God’s kingdom. If you do wish to consider this form of donating the account details are:
ST LUKE’S PCC  ACCT:32196202. SORT:60-16-16
Thank you for enabling the work of St Luke’s in the Parish to continue.

DIOCESE OF SOUTHWARK FOOD ACCESS RESPONSE

Love thy neighbour. We are called to love our neighbour. There has been such an outpouring of support for one another amid these very difficult times when the Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic is robbing people off their lives and others of their livelihoods. We are all caring for one another in many ways: from that phone call for a chat with a person who is self-isolating and might be living on their own, to those much-needed food parcels, all the way to sign-posting information to access such support.
The information provided in this resource encompasses assistance offered in the geographical area covered by the Diocese of Southwark, which covers South London and part of East Surrey.  We have done our utmost to include all already existing information on available support outside the scope of food banks in this resource.  Please bear in mind that we are in an evolving situation and some information in this document will become out of date and new information added.
We aim to update this resource as regularly as we can - download the full Food Access Response document, or visit the link below for information divided by borough. Food Access Response

THY KINGDOM COME. Ascension to Pentecost 21st to 31st May 2020
Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus.
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, Thy Kingdom Come is going to look slightly different this year.
During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:

  • Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ

  • Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus

  • Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness

LET US PRAY….   A prayer for all those affected by coronavirus

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy.
Sustain and support the anxious,
be with those who care for the sick,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may find comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.

ASCENSION DAY PRAYER
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ
to have ascended into the heavens,
so we in heart and mind may also ascend
and with him continually dwell;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Have a blessed week
