St. Luke's Peckham Weekly Newsletter 10

Weekly Newsletter 10

Greetings to everyone, we are almost in the season of Pentecost. 10th week of lockdown. Who would have thought that when they told us we could not have our Mothering Sunday service on 22nd March, we would still be here now having on-line services? Since then we have had to come to terms with a new way of doing things. Zoom now has a new meaning!

I hope you have enjoyed all the prayers for Thy Kingdom Come. I pray you have seen the seeds grow as you pray for those who do not yet know Jesus to come to know him. As I write this Newsletter I have just watched Week 4 of the Faith at Home series and listened to young people speak about humility. Ending the video with the double Mobo award winning rapper Guvna B. It’s Great.
Faith at Home episode-4-Humility
The link to the Faith at home site is also listed below.

So what is humility? I think humility is about putting others before yourself, uplifting others even at the detriment of yourself. Phillippians 2 gives us a great example of humility and describes it better than I can. Phillippians 2.1-11.  Perhaps over the next week, you may like to just think of ways in which you can put others before yourself.

RETURNING TO OUR CHURCH BUILDINGS

It is hoped that we will be able to return to our Church Buildings in the next few weeks, possibly early July. So we are looking at ways in which this will be possible. Please see the link to the church of England site regarding Coronavirus updates: Coronavirus updates - C of E

WEEKLY SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday 24th May at 10am during our service of Holy Communion which was conducted online via Zoom. It went well, although for some reason we had several hitches this week, but that’s what happens sometimes. This week we have our Pentecost Sunday Service, so please wear red and join us. For the link please contact Revd Sandra on sandra.stlukespeckham@gmail.com

If you would like to see the service for 24th May 2020 it is on our Facebook page @stlukespeckham and YouTube Channels: https://youtu.be/DlmqgURIqiw

ST LUKE’S REGULAR GIVING

We are thankful to all of you who donate to St Luke’s regularly, however, at this time it is just as important to continue your regular giving even if you cannot attend the Church building for worship. I would encourage those of you who normally donate via the collection plate or envelope to consider setting up a Standing Order, so that even when you are unable to attend you will still be contributing financially to the church, so we can continue the work in the community to build God’s kingdom. If you do wish to consider this form of donating the account details are:
ST LUKE’S PCC  ACCT: 32196202. SORT: 60-16-16
Thank you for enabling the work of St Luke’s in the Parish to continue.

DIOCESE OF SOUTHWARK FOOD ACCESS RESPONSE

Love thy neighbour. We are called to love our neighbour. There has been such an outpouring of support for one another amid these very difficult times when the Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic is robbing people off their lives and others of their livelihoods. We are all caring for one another in many ways: from that phone call for a chat with a person who is self-isolating and might be living on their own, to those much-needed food parcels, all the way to sign-posting information to access such support.
The information provided in this resource encompasses assistance offered in the geographical area covered by the Diocese of Southwark, which covers South London and part of East Surrey.  We have done our utmost to include all already existing information on available support outside the scope of food banks in this resource.  Please bear in mind that we are in an evolving situation and some information in this document will become out of date and new information added.
We aim to update this resource as regularly as we can - download the full Food Access Response document, or visit the link below for information divided by borough. Food Access Response

The next 5 have been done by children and young people from across the Diocese and they’re really great to watch! THY KINGDOM COME. Ascension to Pentecost 21st to 31st May 2020

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus.
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, Thy Kingdom Come is going to look slightly different this year.
During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:

  • Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ

  • Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus

  • Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness

LET US PRAY….   A prayer for all those affected by coronavirus

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy.
Sustain and support the anxious,
be with those who care for the sick,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may find comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.
PRAYER FOR THE SUNDAY AFTER ASCENSION DAY (7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER)

O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ
with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Have a blessed week
