Weekly Newsletter 13
Greetings everyone, I pray this finds you well. In a week where we have celebrated Windrush day on the 22nd June, remembering those who came to help build this country and were welcomed by many, and also treated badly by many. We continue to pray for change for the better.
If you have been following the news, it seems like the country has gone crazy as lockdown begins to ease. With thousands of people on our beaches, forgetting all about social distancing. Street parties just down the road in Brixton causing injuries to self and to the police. The craziest thing of all, coming from a Chelsea fan, is Liverpool winning the Premiership!
However, one of the distressing things I have seen. On the news this week, is finding out that the Police Officers took selfies with the daughters of the first ever Black Archdeacon in England, Mina Smallman. Here’s hoping that justice will be done. I guess it continues the theme of institutional racism in organisations within the UK. A sad state.
I will not however dwell on that and let’s continue to pray for a change of mindset and for peace in our area of Southwark and the wider world.
RETURNING TO OUR CHURCH BUILDINGS ON 5TH JULY 2020
As advised last week, we have set up a group of people to review this to ensure we consider all the areas we need to look at for us to be in a position to return to worship in a safe way that is accessible for all of us. Do let us know if there are areas we really need to consider and may overlook.
We do feel that we will be able to return to the building on Sunday 5th July for our first service back at 10am. There will be social distancing in place as advised in the government guidelines. The Children’s Church will also be open at the same time in the Hall

LET US PRAY…. Prayer of Black Lives Matter written by the Dean of Southwark Cathedral
There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male or female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.
(Galatians 3.28)
God of all, who loves each of us for who we are, to whom each life matters, who counts the hairs on our head who knows when a sparrow falls; teach us to love as you love, to respect, to honour, to care and to protect each of our sisters and brothers, that your embracing including kingdom may come now and your love be known by all, always. Amen
PRAYER FOR SECOND sunday after trinity sunday
Lord, you have taught us that all our doings without love are nothing worth: send your Holy Spirit
and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtues,
without which whoever lives is counted dead before you. Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Greetings everyone, I pray this finds you well as the Government continue with the easing of lockdown, and the UK have moved to level 3 in the COVID ALERT Marker. Well done to all of us who have been observing the guidelines and taking care. The battle continues in the fight against COVID-19, whilst we commiserate with all who have lost loved ones…over 42000 in the UK alone. Pray for continued healing in a damaged world.
BURGESS PARK - BLM Protests
We also continue to be active in the fight against racism, and see the protests take on next levels, where groups of people and organisations start to look at their own situation, and hopefully put in place structures to reduce the unfairness in their organisations. From the Church we have always known that we are all part of a human race, although yes their history demonstrates that they too have been complicit in treating Black Lives as less than. Hence we continue with recognising that Black Lives do matter. Many people went along to the protest at Burgess Park last week, 14 June 2020. There will be another protest tomorrow again starting from the Lake at 2pm, in Burgess Park. Do go along if you are able and wish to support this cause. Please ensure Social distancing and wear masks.

Greetings to everyone, I pray you are well. The past few days has been very distressing, several people are angry as a result of the death of George Floyd who was killed by a policeman in Minnesota, USA. I do hope the protests and actions that have taken place will encourage people to reflect on their thoughts about racism. Racism is something we do not want to see in our communities and definitely not in our Churches. Some of you will have seen Bishop Christopher alongside the leaders of the Area MEACCs(Minority Ethnic Anglican Committee), holding up a sign stating Our buildings are closed, our hearts are open, the image is below with a link to the article in the local paper.

Greetings to everyone, we are almost in the season of Pentecost. 10th week of lockdown. Who would have thought that when they told us we could not have our Mothering Sunday service on 22nd March, we would still be here now having on-line services? Since then we have had to come to terms with a new way of doing things. Zoom now has a new meaning!
I hope you have enjoyed all the prayers for Thy Kingdom Come. I pray you have seen the seeds grow as you pray for those who do not yet know Jesus to come to know him. As I write this Newsletter I have just watched Week 4 of the Faith at Home series and listened to young people speak about humility. Ending the video with the double Mobo award winning rapper Guvna B. It’s Great.

The link to the Faith at home site is also listed below.
So what is humility? I think humility is about putting others before yourself, uplifting others even at the detriment of yourself. Phillippians 2 gives us a great example of humility and describes it better than I can. Phillippians 2.1-11. Perhaps over the next week, you may like to just think of ways in which you can put others before yourself.

DIOCESE OF SOUTHWARK FOOD ACCESS RESPONSE
Love thy neighbour. We are called to love our neighbour. There has been such an outpouring of support for one another amid these very difficult times when the Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic is robbing people off their lives and others of their livelihoods. We are all caring for one another in many ways: from that phone call for a chat with a person who is self-isolating and might be living on their own, to those much-needed food parcels, all the way to sign-posting information to access such support.
The information provided in this resource encompasses assistance offered in the geographical area covered by the Diocese of Southwark, which covers South London and part of East Surrey. We have done our utmost to include all already existing information on available support outside the scope of food banks in this resource. Please bear in mind that we are in an evolving situation and some information in this document will become out of date and new information added.
We aim to update this resource as regularly as we can - download the full Food Access Response document, or visit the link below for information divided by borough. Food Access Response

THY KINGDOM COME. Ascension to Pentecost 21st to 31st May 2020
Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus.
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, Thy Kingdom Come is going to look slightly different this year.
During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:
Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ
Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus
Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness

LET US PRAY…. A prayer for all those affected by coronavirus
Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy.
Sustain and support the anxious,
be with those who care for the sick,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may find comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.
PRAYER FOR THE SUNDAY AFTER ASCENSION DAY (7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER)
O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ
with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Have a blessed week

Greetings to everyone, we are in the 7th week of the Easter season and the day after Ascension day, As we enter the 9th week of lockdown, I am happy to report that I was licensed as Priest in Charge of St Luke’s on Tuesday 19th May, to a large group of people who managed to log into Zoom, over 80 people. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to see so many familiar faces, so I thank God for the gift of technology. I’m looking forward to continuing the good work we have already undertaken so far as well as to up our involvement in being a part of the community of North Peckham. Thank you to all of you who were able to log in and I pray we can continue. Onwards and Upwards. Let’s make St Luke’s Great again.

ST LUKE’S REGULAR GIVING
We are thankful to all of you who donate to St Luke’s regularly, however, at this time it is just as important to continue your regular giving even if you cannot attend the Church building for worship. I would encourage those of you who normally donate via the collection plate or envelope to consider setting up a Standing Order, so that even when you are unable to attend you will still be contributing financially to the church, so we can continue the work in the community to build God’s kingdom. If you do wish to consider this form of donating the account details are:
ST LUKE’S PCC ACCT:32196202. SORT:60-16-16
Thank you for enabling the work of St Luke’s in the Parish to continue.

Here’s what’s gone on the website this week:

Young People
Year 6 transitions group on Facebook, offering resources to help those who are moving up to year 7 in September
Youth Work Conversations Exploring some of the issues in youth work during lockdown, and what their legacy might be

How should we value children's spirituality?
What's the point of play?
Kids in Church - what's the deal?
2:30pm: afternoon seminar by Dr Andrew Root - REGISTER HERE
Why youth ministry is becoming a less-valued thing, and turning toward a new imagination for youth ministry that frees us from competition.
6-8pm – Supporting CYP with bereavement during lockdown - Book your place
with 3 experienced chaplains on how to adapt our practice in the context of social distancing.
Youth Workers: The National Youth Association has just published the National Occupation Standards and Youth Work Policy for England.
Thank you for all you’re doing, you may not always feel like it but you’re doing a great job and it matters. Stay safe J

Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ
to have ascended into the heavens,
so we in heart and mind may also ascend
and with him continually dwell;
